And then from there I worked there a couple years, then a nicer salon came open across the road, and I moved over there, and then now I moved into an an even nicer salon.
SPEAKER_01So that's how Well I see I I but I hear all through this. I hear you working, okay? And you know, and all through the Bible, and I wrote this down, he says, I will if you will.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01And I think so many people get confused. They pray and get up and they fold their hands. And or they just hold their hands up instead of putting them to the plow.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01And the Bible says we make it by the sweat of our brow. Okay? And I I spoke to a at Souls Harbor asked me back years when they had a school. I went and spoke to a graduating class and I brought them all red bandanas. And I said, the Bible says you make it by the sweat of your brow. And I brought that how we we it takes labor to do this. And Lawrence and I were talking about when we talk about Noah, he was a real man, not like me or Lawrence or none of us. I mean, that guy was a horse.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01I mean, to build that ark, 120 years, a little bit of instruction, not him getting up every day and the Lord saying, Come on, you can do it. A little bit of instruction, moving in big cedar trees and pitching that thing, gathering it all up, and people laughing at you. And I mean, so I think about the labor that's involved sometimes. And I and you touched on this. I've been blessed in my life not to have money in so many things I've done. But I had knowledge, which was worth so much. And we had to work and I had to learn. I mean, I had 107 TV stations at one time. I won't even tell you where all this is going, okay? From from Detroit to Texas, I won't even we won't even go into that. And three days ago I decided I wanted to launch a podcast. You know, I've been on television forever and we've done all kinds of things. And and you know, in a in a matter of 24 hours, we're on iTunes and Amazon and and all these things. Spotify, and I didn't really know. My grandson's just been telling me, Papa, you need to get on a podcast, you need to do a podcast. And I said, Yes. Well, I know I listen to those things, but I don't know. And and I I've always tried to get everybody else to figure it out for me. And I've got mad at everybody because they wouldn't give me a system, you know. So I and last night I got mad the other night and said, I'm gonna figure this out myself. And I went on normally with chat GPT and got my education, and I come down the line and and started working on it. But I mean, well, this will be on the podcast. But I mean, I said, but if I could have paid someone, I would have. If I'd had the money, I would have said, hey, I would have called up Billy Bob and said, hey, how about getting me, set me up, do the podcast, and get me on all these things, but I didn't have the money, so I had to do it. And I think when you talk about what you're saying is if you would have just rolled it out and you could have reached down in a big bag and done that, but what you gained was so valuable. You gained this strength and backbone in God that's missing in so many lives. And we think about the the parable of the two sons, and and there's just so many things we think about, how you gained something that you could have never bought and you could have never learned. But that life experience that brought you to the place you are, it's beautiful, ain't it? Yes, it doesn't mean it's fun. Yes, but it's beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01I talked to a lot of people that had uh I've got a lot of family that have been a rehab, and and some been three and four times until they finally God just brought them out. It's fascinating to think of and to look at because see the Bible said there's many worlds among us, okay, and you talk of a world that I don't understand. Okay, and I tried to listen to it and understand because I've never taken any kind of drugs and never drunk a beer in my life, and never smoked a cigarette. I've been a little mean, all right, which is I know it don't take long to figure that out, but I've been a little stern, and I there's some things that I have but there's so there's a world when you begin to bring that to me and explain that to me and to other people, I think it helps them and it makes us have a different way of thinking. Uh I used to be a little hard on people that on drugs and things like that. And I got to thinking, man, alive, I have a hard enough time not eating Oreos. All right. Or if you told me, John, no more diet Pepsi this week, you know, I'll start shaking right now. Think about it. Man, I I really enjoyed the diet Pepsi. You know what I mean? I got I enjoy that, that and the fresca. I've got hooked on it lately. But so I mean, I know there's things that get a hold of people. And it's it is a battle. It is hard to come through. But see, I believe that there's people that are chosen.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Really, really, really chosen of God. And there is going to be some things, but there is a future that He has ordained for you, fighting and struggling and pushing and shoving, that you'll come through. You'll come through. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Yes, now about the um work and and everything, I always tell people that, you know, God will open doors, but you have to walk through them. Right. And just like with the sparrows, you know, how God takes care of the sparrows, but how hard do those sparrows have to get up and work?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00I mean, they have to go out and they get up and they fight for their food.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, and you have to be willing to do the work. God will open the doors, but we have to walk through them.
SPEAKER_01Uh you know, I think about that. You know, I was I was watching one time about squirrels. I get most of my education from YouTube. I'll just tell you where it comes from. All right. It's that and TikTok, and I mean, you know, that's just the way it is. I just I can't fight it. All right. I would love to be a reader. My wife reads. She can say, I'm gonna read the Bible tomorrow. And she'll just read the whole Bible. I mean, she's like that, all right? I I'm not, I'm not. I barely got out of school, but but I get I get my stuff, I'm very video oriented. But I was watching squirrels a while back, and I was fascinated how in the wintertime they would hide those nuts and go back and get them. And have the in the summertime they would hide all these in different places, and then when the snow comes, they'd go back and get that nut. And I thought, well, now ain't that something. But then I got to read, I got to watch it on far that said they only have like a 40% success rate. All right, it ain't like they're finding all of them, but they're finding part of them. But I think of how in our life, if we if we'll I think not being a quitter is one of the biggest things.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Don't be a quitter. You don't have to be the very best there is, but if you just won't be a quitter, you just won't won't be a quitter.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. I always say whatever you do consistently will eventually work.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, if you just keep at it, you keep being consistent at it, and you know, just working through this and and letting God walk you through life, that's where your character is developed.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, and it takes when God brings you through the fire. I was reading in Zachariah earlier where it said, you know, he will bring one third through the fire. And and I've just that scripture's always, you know, been really close to my heart because I just think about God walking me through the fire and like uh when me, Shaq I get those names mixed up. But anyway, they were through in the fire and they came out and they didn't even smell like smoke. You know, like most people that met me now would never know that you know I was in that fire. Right. The fire of addiction and poverty and all those things.
SPEAKER_01You know, I've got a cousin that was always a really good fella. But I had an uncle, my uncle was a good man and and and come to the Lord in in his life, but but he was uh he was a straight-line Harley man. His name was Booger, beard, long hair, he was he was a Harley. Okay, you knew you didn't have to look at him and say, Oh, does he write a Yamaha? You know, you knew he was a Harley man. But uh and anyway, his son Brian, uh uh his mom and daddy didn't raise him exactly right. They had some issues too. And but Brian, my cousin, he uh it was always a really good guy. Now you'd like him, he's so likable, but just addicted and drugs. But he went through rehab several times with
